The cup is then placed upside down on the saucer for seven seconds, allowing the remaining fluid to drain. Symbols near the rim of the cup typically refer to the present or near future, while those closer to the bottom of the cup are associated with the past. In many traditions, the top of the cup is seen as a place of luck and positive energy, while the bottom may carry more challenging messages.
